This smallish but fat paperback presents the Lake District in a light that many may have experienced but one that is little photographed. The first phase of this project will take three years and is supported by grants totalling 8.9 million pounds. This book, based on trees, is the third of Keith's handsome works. Keith writes, "Jack's Yak is far more than a book about trees. It is also a fascinating, informative and amusing book about life and is beautifully illustrated throughout with the work of the highly acclaimed photographer, Val Corbett." In the summer of 2009 I spent several days in Wasdale, desperately trying to keep up while walking the surrounding fells with the legendary fellrunner Joss Naylor. Even at 73 his walking pace was seriously fast… My friend and ex-editor (of Cumbria Life) Keith Richardson (http://www.rivergretawriter.co.uk) was writing a biography of Joss, published in autumn 2009, and I supplied most of the colour images. 'Joss'  vied for top place in the Lakeland Book of the Year Awards, 2010, and lost by a whisker.
