Due out in February 2012 is this new style (for me) publication from Frances Lincoln (cover price £9.99). This smallish but fat paperback presents the Lake District in a light that many may have experienced but one that is little photographed. There is humour and pathos as well as stunning landscapes.

As dusk approaches, countless starlings gather over the rooftops at Aberystwyth making swirling patterns in the sky. Then in squadrons, they abruptly descend to take up roosting perches under the pier.

	I got a runner-up award.

Just published! Woodmansterne cards have selected this photo taken this summer at Knightshayes garden in Devon - part of the proceeds will be donated to the National Gardens Scheme. They have cunningly added a 'Keep Off the Grass' sign and a second goose.

The busiest yet! In conjunction with my writing partner, Tim Longville, along with resumption of illustrating garden articles for Cumbria Life, I am photographing gardens as far apart as Dorset and Caithness (but fortunately not all counties in between). Highlights so far have been Parnham House at Beaminster and Bramham Park near Wetherby (photo) where I was very grateful for being given the use of a golf buggy to cover the extensive parkland.

Another enjoyable commission! Peter Stott wants unusual, quirky, tending to abstract photos at Larch Cottage in nearby Melkinthorpe for a gallery on his new website. This work provides a different challenge to my usual garden work of purely representational images.

I am currently working on an ongoing commission documenting the work at the castle. The first phase of this project will take three years and is supported by grants totalling 8.9 million pounds. I am loving the fascinating and varied work which often involves clambering up scaffolding for the best viewpoints.

March 2011 saw the publication of Keith Richardson's (http://www.rivergretawriter.co.uk) new book with my photography. This book, based on trees, is the third of Keith's handsome works. Keith writes, "Jack's Yak is far more than a book about trees. It is also a fascinating, informative and amusing book about life and is beautifully illustrated throughout with the work of the highly acclaimed photographer, Val Corbett." The title refers to the ancient oak in Lowther Park, sometimes referred to as "The luck of the Lonsdales".

"Joss" has sold very well and is being re-printed.

In the summer of 2009 I spent several days in Wasdale, desperately trying to keep up while walking the surrounding fells with the legendary fellrunner Joss Naylor. Even at 73 his walking pace was seriously fast… My friend and ex-editor (of Cumbria Life) Keith Richardson (http://www.rivergretawriter.co.uk) was writing a biography of Joss, published in autumn 2009, and I supplied most of the colour images. 'Joss' vied for top place in the Lakeland Book of the Year Awards, 2010, and lost by a whisker. It would have been Keith's second win in two years

My new book ‘A Year in the Life of the Eden Valley’, ( Frances Lincoln publ.) was published at the end of June 2010. “She feels deeply rooted in the area and her local knowledge and understanding of an unusually beautiful area which is often overlooked in favour of the Lake District illuminates this lovely book” - Cumbria Life, June 2010

My second book to be published this year “Winter in the Lake District” also published by Frances Lincoln, is due in October.
