Gallery - Eastern Lakes and Ullswater
Ullswater stretches from Pooley Bridge in the north to Glenridding in the south. South of Glenridding lie the little villages of Patterdale and picturesque Hartsop and Brotherswater. The main road then twists up to the Kirkstone Pass Inn. Glenridding is a popular starting point for climbing Helvellyn with its dramatic ridge of Striding Edge. East of Ullswater lies the remote Haweswater reservoir, which was built in the 1930s, flooding the little village of Mardale Head. Further east, in the quiet Lowther Valley is an attractive string of little villages, Askham, Helton and Bampton.
